The Explorers

Back in the late ‘50s, threatened by the Fender style invasion, Gibson upped the bet with this fabulous duo, the Flying Vee and the Gibson Explorer. They were a flop, like many things which are too far ahead of their time. But came the ‘70s, when bands were looking for some flash, some style, some cool, and the Gibson twins were suddenly the ultimate in groove. Their stinging attack ripped down the walls. Later, metal bands grabbed the Vees and Explorers, and the myriad of clones that followed, crushing the eardrums of their legions.
